I realize I ran a similar End is Near recently, but with the Olympic Badminton Teams from China, South Korea, and Indonesia exhibiting such poor sportsmanship in trying to lose to each other (see below), I’m reconsidering the merits of Olympic Pole Dancing. At least these ladies are ready to bring it.

In case you’re not familiar with the athleticism of this competitive dance form, below is a world champion pole dancer, Jenyne Butterfly. She starts with more interpretive dance elements, but after about a minute, she begins a genuinely amazing performance.

Piper Bayard–The Pale Writer of the Apocalypse
OMG- that is amazing! I am so jealous of her strength!
Hi Alica. Piper is gone today and I had pole dancing classes all morning and just now looked at our blog. This is the sort of thing that is bound to happen when the working half of the partnership takes a break.
Given that Piper is unable to defend herself from slanderous comments today I want to encourage everyone to do their best to make up an interesting story about her absence.
Is she at camp cheerful new activities to happy campers? Is she in DC shopping for discount congressmen as part of a plot to take over the blogging world? I never cared where “Waldo” was but Piper is supposed to be the responsible adult in our partnership and I would hate for her to be too comfortable in her absence.
Without her around to edit me God only knows what could happen.
I have often wondered about some of the selections regarding sports that “make it” to the Olympics. It’s my understanding that golf will be included in 2016. Glurg!
Thanks for the shout out regarding my post on typing thank you notes. I am rather shocked at the number of people who gave it the nod. You and I need to write letters to each other, maybe!
Hi Renee. By “you and I” you likely were referring to my reasonable and grammatically more “conventional” friend Piper. She is off some place doing something. Rather than asking her for a reasonable response to the question of where she is feel free to make up something more interesting.
I also thought pole-dancing was for strippers only until I saw Butterfly’s pole dance. Amazing athleticism! I do think that the Olympic uniforms would need a little more coverage. Then again, having seen what the water polo and diver men wear (T.M.I.!), maybe pole-dancing isn’t such a stretch. Great links as always, Piper!
Hi Julie. What’s the difference between the Brooklyn mob and the International Olympic Committee?
There are a few things that the mob won’t do for money.
Pole dancing is perfect as an Olympic sport, but we have to make an Equal Opportunity sport. So for those who enjoy it male pole dancing. Think of it, gymnasts working the pole for all those women who had to sit through womens pole dancing. Fair is fair.
Yes tomwisk I agree. And let’s not forget synchronized pole dancing.
Why haven’t those lazy slobs at the IOC introduced that all important and most popular American sport? Why is Showering not an Olympic sport?
What event would surpass the team showering event in popularity and TV ratings?
I am confident that when the IOC can set aside their obvious anti-American biases the USA will be taking home oodles of medals for Showering events. The idea of the young American showering team standing on the podium singing the national anthem has me teary eyed.
It will be a proud day for the USA!
PS: Have you any clue as to the whereabouts of my slave driving sadistic editor Piper?
I heard she was on a mission to infiltrate the Cleveland Underground.
HI Dave. Let’s hope she succeeds and leaves before she wears out her welcome.
If golf can make it …
Cheers!
Ribbon waving is a Gymnastic event so if that’s a sport why not poker or pole dancing?
Good point. Making tea is pretty popular across the globe as well. That one should be easy to get in.
These women athletes are on par with gymnasts. Jenyne performs something I think is similar to men gymnasts doing the rings (which I don’t think women gymnasts do in the Olympics, right?). However, Jenyne performs pole dancing with greater athleticism, strength, & grace. People may get uppity because the dansers have to have skin exposed to stick to the pole, whereas in all other sports the woman’s torso is covered. I hope pole dancing is recognized, at least, as a sport one day. However, it may not get into the Olympics based on the fact that ballet & other dancing is not in the Olympics. But badminton is?????
Monique
@moniqueliddle
Hi Monique. You have a point. Pole dancing could be done more athletically than the hoop dancing and the ribbon waving stuff that they do in gymnastics.
To tell you the truth I wouldn’t care of they introduced, competitive whiskey guzzling, shopping cart racing and synchronized shoe polishing. Between the financial corruption, the overt political nonsense, and the rigged events I wouldn’t even care if the USA pulled out of the Olympics and held actual athletic competitions instead.
Thanks for the mention, Piper! And as far as pole dancing in the Olympics, I’m all for it. I’d like to see which countries end up sending pole dancing athletes and what kinds of costumes they get to wear. Do you think Nike would sponsor it?
Hi Tami. Piper is mysteriously absent today. Nike would do all in their power to convince the world that the best pole dance can only happen if you “just do it” (with Nike shoes made by Chinese prisoners and sold for $200/pair).
LOL. You speculated on the costumes, and I just got an image of the Women’s Pole Dancing Team from Saudi Arabia.
Amazing! I totally want to take up pole dancing. That is some serious SKILL!
Now I know what I’m doing wrong in my workout routine…I don’t own a pole!! Look at those muscles! Can you imagine how strong she is?
Seriously! She’s amazing!
