I’m thinking the Swedes have a lot of time on their hands during those long winter nights.

For twelve years now, people have been simultaneously taking off their pants to ride the subway. The No Pants Subway Ride started by Improv Everywhere now has participants as far away as Mexico City and Stockholm. This is their video of the 2013 event in New York City.
As you can see, I learned how to frame questions from all of those damn political fliers that won’t stop showing up in my mailbox.
All the best to all of you for a week of pleasant music.

I absolutely agree with you about Leanne’s book and Obama’s proposals. I’m doing all I can to make sure my Congressional representatives know I support the president (of course I’m from Texas so my two senators are a lost cause). At least my Congressman is supportive. Loved the polled.
To be clear, I am a strong supporter of 2nd Amendment rights and responsibilities. As such, I believe Americans have the responsibility to be educated on the topic, and there is a flurry of misinformation going around.
So glad you enjoyed the poll. 🙂
Okay, I know people will buy all sorts of stupid s***. I’ve done my share, but a sound surround coffin is more that I can take. I heard about it channel surfing and landed long enough to heare the spiel. Won’t need one. Plan on getting cremated as a prequel to an eternity. AND has anyone thought that these overpriced body boxes are going to spend a whole lot of time underground? Who’s going to make sure the power source doesn’t go dead? As for gun control, the POTUS makes a few reasonable suggestions and the Gun Right goes batsh**.
I’ll just ride pants-free in my coffin… 🙂
LOL. I’m with you.
I’m with Leanne. Pants-free coffin rides for everyone!
Thanks for the shout out Piper – and thanks for sharing all the great links. I look forward to your Friday posts every week.
Thanks, Susan. 🙂
I love the story of the guy who outsourced to China. Reminds a little of Robert Heinlein’s story of The Man Who Was Too Lazy To Fail. Except this guy got caught.
I haven’t seen that. I’ll have to check it out. I know my hubby had a co-worker who never seemed to be at his desk. So they put his chair on top of his desk to see how long it would stay there. They called him down after a week. He had been golfing. Thanks for the Robert Heinlein tip. 🙂
Golfing in Ireland…at company expense.
But I don’t see any fundamental difference between what this SW engineer did than what most multinational corporations do. In his case, he probably ran afoul of confidentiality agreements rather than doing something outright illegal. Anyone with experience working with Asian development companies will tell you that there is NO protection of IP whatsoever. Within a month or two, an Asian competitor will have the complete design, regardless of any confidentiality agreements. The best you can hope for is a head start.
It’s a story Lazarus Long tells in Time Enough For Love. As Lazarus tells it, he kept streamlining and refining his duties on a starship so he had more and more free time, but as a side effect he made the ship run better and more efficiently. I am drastically paraphrasing, but that’s the gist of it. Wonder if the China guy was as efficient? Heinlein’s one of my favorites, the old libertarian rabble-rouser.
Great links today, Piper. I especially liked the Wall Street Story and the outsourcer.
Isn’t that a hoot? Will you be at DFW again this year?
Seems to me a surround sound coffin is akin to placing a bell in the coffin so the deceased could ring it if they weren’t actually dead. (If I heard music coming from under a headstone, I’d definitely call for help.)
LOL. I would, too. Especially if someone kept changing the stations. 🙂
No-pants subway ride? Last time I’m ever gonna leave the house claiming I have literally nothing to wear…:-)
Sounds like you just need to pick the right day to do it. 🙂
I’ve been reading Shakespeare since my teens. Not a year goes by that I don’t read Romeo & Juliet. I love also the classics such as Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice. It’s true, there’s something about Shakespeare that makes the world more understandable. He put things in writing that is a reflection of the human heart. All the joys, pains, love and death…it’s all in there, ready for our taking. He’s been my hero for such a long time. Thanks for the reminder of how awesome he is, Piper!
I took a Shakespeare class a million years ago as an undergrad, and I still remember many of the quotes. I agree with you that it’s all there. And it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than therapy. 🙂
