Prime time TV would have us thinking teens are all a bunch of shallow losers who can’t think past their next freakish vampire/werewolf/angel/superhero boyfriend/girlfriend or their next gossip fix. Being the mother of teenage geeks, though, I can say with confidence that there are plenty of decent kids out there. When no one is looking, these kids are playing World of Warcraft or Minecraft, reading Popular Science, watching anime cartoons, or laughing over quirky videos.
Here are just a few of those quirky videos:
The Narwhal Song
The Badger Song
And for the hard core geek, Minecraft Dwarf Hole (Diggy Diggy Hole)
Don’t you feel younger already?
What are your favorite goofy videos?
All the best to all of you for a fun and independent week.
LOL. How fun!
Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Wow, that’s 5 minutes of my life that I’ll never get back, LOL. I’ll have to ask our resident minecraft expert if he’s seen the Diggy Hole video. 😉
Let me know if he has. Really sticks in the brain, doesn’t it? 🙂
*snort* Gee, rethinking the whole orchestration bit on the next musical….
LOL. Are you sewing cloth horns on elastic headbands yet?
Thank you for showcasing the fun, quirky side of teens that I get to see every day in my classroom! Awesome. 🙂
I love teens. My kids say it’s because I never grew up. All the best to you heading back to school. BTW, I loved the clip of you on TV. Great traveling kid advice!
(P.S. And those teens show me videos all the time. Love it.)
They’re awesome, aren’t they?
Ka-Snort!
After these? Share my favorite video clips? No freaking way.
I
had tochose to watch the Narwhal video twice. Too much going on to catch it all in one viewing. Especially since I had to recover from giggle fits over the dude and his ball(s) dodge.Okay. So. Call me crazy. It’s okay. Many do. But, I did not “get” the mushroom and snake in the Badger video. Mushrooms? Means the badgers need to “mushroom in numbers” perhaps? What’s with the snake? That’s a plot twist that didn’t get tied for me.
Fun stuff, Piper.
Can I come over an play with your teenagers? I’ll behave. Mostly.
The down side of having teenagers is that they grow up and move on. I don’t know what I’ll do for entertainment once they leave home. I have been walking around all day singing The Narwhal Song. I love how they keep me young. Well, feeling young, anyway. Come join the party any time! 🙂
Reblogged this on M. B. Scully and commented:
As an eighteen-year-old, I wholeheartedly agree with this.
Thanks, M.B. Teens are awesome. 🙂
They are so awesome! Wouldn’t it be great if teenagers tried to make these kinds of videos themselves. That would keep them out of trouble and they’d gain useful skills.
Some of them do, I think. 🙂
Cool!
Attn: Holmes: Please keep your writing/blogging partner away from video vaults. She will put us around the bend. I watched the first two but the third was waaay too much.
LOL. Now that I know your threshold, Tom I know where to start looking for the next set of videos. 🙂
Okay, if you want mind-bending, here goes: Try Stop The Presses it’s a Yahoo music blog by Wendy Geller. The 8/8 post is beyond outré. It’s a video of Lady Gaga practicing a method of finding herself. A warning This Is Not For Kids there is some bodily exposure. I was curious. My eyes hurt. The soundtrack is the get even for the Narwhale Song. You’ve been warned.
I’ve thought about the site I sent you to. If you’ve watched it and are offended, I’m sorry. Next time I’ll think.
No worries, Tom. It’s much more difficult than that to offend me. I haven’t watched it yet because no link came through. Now I feel compelled to look it up. 🙂
My kids are older and missed this fun stage but they still love watching Sponge Bob! 🙂
I still enjoy an episode of Arthur now and then. 🙂
ROFL. Awesome!
It drives me nuts that our culture segregates by age. Children and teens are largely kept away from society, elders are often separated (senior only communities). When we isolate various age groups from “real life” we miss out on what they have to offer.
My kiddos adore Minecraft. It seems to have gotten my 7 year old interested in coding. He wants to be able to build mods and has a detailed list of what his mods will do. 😀
I agree. It think it’s a great detriment to our society that we segregate ages. Older people have so much to teach the young, and the young have so many smiles to give to the old. 🙂
Diggy Diggy Hole has been my wake up song for about 6 months now. I love hearing it when my alarm clock goes off.
It’s a cute song, for sure. My son hosts a Minecraft server and showed it to me.
Minecraft is awesome…lol At 30 years old, I still have fun playing games like that!
LOL. I’ll tell you a secret… I do, too. 🙂
H-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s!
Narwals, narwals, inventors of the shish-ka-bob …
Catchy tune … *dances off, stage left to listen to the 1 hour version*
